Our Services

Our advice is holistic and will incorporate all aspects of your financial planning requirements. Please see below for a summary of some of the key areas in relation to which we may be able to assist you. If you are uncertain as to whether or not we can assist, please contact us – we’ll be pleased to hear from you and, at the very least, should be able to point you in the right direction!

Investment & tax planning

This is often at the core of your financial planning and will interact with most other advice areas. Effective investment & tax planning will incorporate the following elements:

  • A bespoke investment solution or solutions that consider your attitude to risk investment horizon, sensitivity to costs, ethical preferences and, most importantly, your objectives.
  • Maximising the tax efficient investment products available to you and ensuring that your tax allowances are used as effectively as possible.

As Independent Financial Advisers, we are able to select investment solutions from across the entire market and thus believe that we are best placed to provide you with a recommendation that is fully tailored and bespoke to you. Combined with our charging framework (please see ‘Our Charges’ page) and the terms which we have received from leading product providers, you can rest assured that you will receive a solution that is fully suitable for you, at a fair price.

Retirement planning

The key to effective retirement planning is to start planning well before you reach retirement! Effective retirement planning will incorporate the following elements:

  • Reviewing your retirement provision (including, but not limited to pensions) as early as possible, along with a thorough review of your objectives and anticipated requirements in retirement.
  • Designing, implementing and reviewing your ‘approaching retirement strategy’ to ensure that you are on track for the retirement you want. This will entail investment planning, cash flow modelling, preparing for decumulation and many other technical terms that we can help you decipher.
  • Creating an ‘in retirement strategy’ that allows you to be confident that you have the income required to meet your objectives, while removing the fear of running out of money. We will be with you on every step of this journey, reviewing, analysing and, perhaps, telling you if you need to rein things in a little bit!

If you have any concerns about whether you are on track to meet your retirement objectives or require advice as to the most efficient and sustainable way to fund your retirement, please get in touch with us. As with so many areas of financial planning, it really is a case of ‘the sooner, the better’.

A PENSION IS A LONG TERM INVESTMENT, THE FUND VALUE MAY FLUCTUATE AND CAN GO DOWN. YOUR EVENTUAL INCOME MAY DEPEND UPON THE SIZE OF THE FUND AT RETIREMENT, FUTURE INTEREST RATES AND TAX LEGISLATION.

Estate planning

For many people, it is important that, even after they are gone, their money ends up in the right place. Effective estate planning is not solely the preserve of the mega-rich and will likely incorporate the following elements:

  • Ensuring that you are accessing your assets in the most Inheritance Tax efficient way possible.
  • Educating you on the many (and often confusing) exemptions, allowances and reliefs of which you can take advantage in order to ensure that as much of your estate is passed on to your beneficiaries as possible.
  • If appropriate, recommending Inheritance Tax efficient products that can assist in reducing the size of your taxable estate.

People often believe that estate planning, by its very nature, needs to be complex and expensive. At SGM Financial Management Ltd, one of our core beliefs is that, where possible, the best solutions are often the simple ones; this also applies to estate planning. In many instances, we will be able to conduct effective estate planning without subjecting your investments to excessive risks, or you to excessive costs. One important point to note, however, is that estate planning is best started as early as possible - so get in touch with us as soon as possible!

Protection planning

At its most basic, protection planning looks at protecting those things that are most important to you. These things may include, but are not limited to:

  • Your family, through the use of life assurance and/or critical illness cover.
  • Your income, through the use of income protection.
  • Your house, through mortgage protection.
  • Your business, through shareholder protection and/or key person insurance.

We believe that the cornerstone of financial planning is addressing protection needs. Without having adequate protection in place, we believe that there is limited benefit in even considering the other financial planning areas. We will work with you to ensure that you have a protection strategy in place that is appropriate, both now and in the future. As an independent firm, we will search the whole of the market with a view to finding the most appropriate protection plans for your needs.

Unfortunately, protection policies do tend to get more expensive as you get older, so please get in touch with us now and you may save yourself some money over the long-term.
